freaks and geeks

wow, i forgot all about this show, but now i've thought about it, i miss it. i wish it was back on tv! i remember staying up late when i was in my early high school years watching episodes of 'freaks and geeks' with my brother. such a quality program.

Freaks and Geeks is an american tv series, produced by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, the 40 Year Old Virgin). the show has developed a cult following, after being cancelled after only 12 episodes had aired.

it's funny to see that most of the main cast are doing either big budget movies or better known sitcoms now.

seth rogen - anchorman, the 40 year old virgin, you me & dupree, knocked up, superbad
linda cardinelli - legally blonde, scooby doo 1&2, brokeback mountain
james franco - spiderman 1&2, the dead girl, james dean
jason segel - how i met your mother, can't hardly wait, knocked up
etc

bring back old tv shows i say! far better that what we're left with today...

hire me?

so today i started a work experience placement in the management office of the l'oreal melbourne fashion festival. i think i'm in love.

even though i didn't really do anything much today - just sat in on a management meeting (which went for EVER - my stomach was growling so loudly it was embarrassing), searched through newspapers for articles about them and put stamps on hundreds of envelopes- i've decided that it is the exact sort of environment that i want to work in. it's a relaxed, open plan office, where each person has a big (very cool and modern) desk and they can all either speak to each other directly or call each other if they're at the opposite end of the office. it's all young-ish women who work there, and there's only about 9 or 10 of them, so they're quite a close knit group. they're all professional and hard working, but it's a really relaxed atmosphere, where they joke around, have little chats and discuss their latest purchases, or what something they're wearing that day.

and that's the other great thing about it, you can wear what you want. a smart casual dress code is definitely a priority for me - i'd hate to be stuck in corporate wear, i need to be able to express myself through my clothing. sounds wanky, but it's true.

and, to top it all off, it's in the best location in the city on flinders lane. right near swanston street, so in the hub of the shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. i took a short break and if you walk in one direction it takes you to all my favourite city shops, like alice euphemia, genki, retrostar and zomp shoez, and if you go in the other direction you get all the more extravagant designer stores, like gucci, zambesi, prada etc.

so besides the fact a job like that would let me incorporate events, pr/marketing and fashion, it also has all the extra features that i'm looking for.

in short - it's my perfect job.

love your style

I love European street style. It's so interesting, so creative, so many colours, so much layering. So much more interesting that fashion in Australia or America, i think. A big generalisation I realise, but i just love looking at it.

My latest city of lustworthy style, Copenhagen. So funky. Check it out.

a rolling stone knocks out moss

is it possible? a photo exists of kate moss not looking impossibly stylish, sophisticated and beautiful? so it seems.

in this photo moss actually looks her 40 - odd years. it was taken ata Glastonbury festival, where she is usually snapped looking effortlessly cool. i guess it was bound to happen at some stage. no-one can look perfect at all times, especially after having a kid and still partying harder than most 20 year olds.

it's also good to know that even fashion and beauty icons have bad days.

snip chop stitch

i have officially become an old woman.

yesterday i arrived home at about 1pm after a mid-morning coffee with my mum and brother (who's visiting from canberra). it was beeaaaaautiful weather outside, a perfect 26 degrees and sunny. and how did i spend the rest of my day?

i watched a sex and the city marathon, and sewed. that's right, sewed.

i've never been much of a sewer, other than learning how to use a machine in year 8 art classes, i've pretty much left any alterations up to my mum. but yesterday i suddenly had a massive urge to alter a tshirt i bought last summer from an op shop for $1. don't ask me where it came from.

the tee is huuuuge with blue and white stripes - i bought it at the time thinking i could wear it as a tshirt dress, but the sleeves were too huge, it just looked silly. so it's been sitting in my wardrobe gathering dust for the past year. but yesterday i fished it out, and a sudden rush of inspiration made me set to work on it.

first i cut off the sleeves. then i rolled up what was left of them and sewed them in place. i cut a couple of piece from the ends of the cut off sleeves and sewed them near the shoulders, as little tabs (hard to explain but it looks good). finally, i used a piece of leftover fabric to make a little pocket on the chest, complete with a little orange button.

and TA-DA! i have a wearable t-shirt! it's pretty big still, but looks good as a very casual, throw on tee. i'm also considering chopping off the bottom to make it more t-shirty than dressy. but i'm so proud of my alterations! and it's made me want to make a start on some other things in my cupboard now. watch out old tshirts....

bargains bargains everywhere

oh op shops, how i love thee. i started my holidays by doing the rounds of my locals, and they didn't let me down! $10 got me 3 books, some Little Golden Books, a brown plaited belt, a little porcelain ornament and a pair of high waisted denim shorts!

i was ecstatic with the shorts, who needs to spend $90 in a shop when you can get a pair (that fit perfectly) for just $1??

i've got shoes on my mind

i've got a hankering for some t-bars. flats or heels. or better yet, flats and heels. with little socks. cute cute cute.
