Memories Monday #... i've lost count

so slack with my posts! sorry much been happening with uni and stuff, but never one to miss a memories monday *ahem* i thought i'd get back on board.

so the pic of the week iiiiiis....

Basically I just chose this pic becuase it makes me laugh at how little I've changed. Seems I always was a poser. I haven't even come up with a more original pose.

I'd still wear that dress if it came in my size! The hair's a little straighter now though (with the help of my prized irons). If the afro look ever comes back, I'll pull out this photo for inspiration.

mmmm chooooocolate

I had a few friends around last night, and by about 1am we were getting pretty tired, and consequently our conversation began to get quite random. in fact, we spent a good 30 minutess discussing what chocolate bars we do and don't like. we were mostly in agreement, and came to a conclusion by way of a majority vote

Flake: too crumbly
Twirl: awesome - goodness of Flake in a firm chocolatey layer :D

And some of the other chocolates I'm lusting over:

Wow. Far too much time on our hands and far too little to think about. Embarrassing really... still, feel free to comment on chocolate - favourites, what you hate, what makes them good/bad ... mmm I'm off to eat a Mint Slice.

Premature celebrations

I know it's still very early days, but the release of the line-up for Pyramid Rock music festival in Phillip Island got me thinking about what I should do for New Years. Last year was a particularly uneventful night, but in its defence an AMAZING day followed. The vast majority of my friends were out of Melbourne ( in Phillip Island, on the Great Ocean Road and interstate generally) and my bestie and I had tickets to Summadayze the next day, so there was no need for a big night. We decided to just rock up to Chapel St, expecting to find the whole area as one big party. Instead, we arrived to find abut two restaurants open with a whole lot of middle aged bogans already wasted and 'boogie-ing' on down to shitty music. Hmmm as appealing as that was we had no choice but to head to Qbar down the road, to an event that we had recently sold our tickets to, having decided it would be crap and a waste of money. Luckily some underage girls had been knocked back when we arrived, and we graciously offered to buy their tickets off them. And we got them at a reduced price! Score.

Surprisingly we knew no-one there, we spent the few hours dancing by ourselves among a seriously grotty crowd, and following the midnight countdown we looked at eachother, nodded and headed home to my place. In fact I had more fun there, chatting until the wee hours of the morning about what we would wear the next day.

Thank god for Summadazye. That made up for the crappy night tenfold. Awesome crowd, awesome artists, awesome weather (other than the 30 mins or so of rain) and overall awesome day.

But I'm not so sure I want to go to Summadayze again this year. I'll be seeing Daft Punk in December, and I need to save money for trips to Sydney, Canberra, a road trip, and Europe later in the year. So I'm in need of some inspiration for New Years eve celebrations. I'm determined to get it right, every year it is such an anticlimax. Always a drama, a crap group, or a crap venue. So it's time to reverse that trend. I'm thinking a trip to someone's beachhouse on the coast. Lorne or Phillip Island perhaps? Any suggestions? What's on the cards for everyone's New Years?

off the hook

wow it's been a while since i've written a post! apologies... been a busy little beaver, trying to get work done as my final uni semester reaches its climax.

the last couple of days i've been sifting through my itunes collection and i've re-fallen in love with brazilian group cansei de ser sexy. if you haven't heard their stuff... get on it. cansei de ser sexy (or CSS to fans) is portuguese for 'tired of being sexy'. hailing from sao paulo (where my brother's girlfriend lives - woo), they state their main musical influence as electro-rock, and their songs are sung both in english and portuguese. their lyrics often make pop culture references, such as in the song 'meeting paris hilton'.

I went to the beach
The bitch was so hot
She came to me and said
"do you like the beach, bitch?"
I said back
"I wanna take you home, bitch
I wanna treat you good, bitch
What do you think of it, bitch?"

highlights from their self-titled album include the popular 'music is my hot hot sex' and 'alala'. definitely check out their myspace if you haven't heard their stuff already, i say.

little miss butch kickboxer

well i had that 80s sport party last night. my original plan of stockings, pink frilly mini and light green polo top went out the window when i hunted in my brother's cupboard at the last minute and found a pair of bright yellow sports shorts and a cut off jumper that says 'Kickboxing, Sport of the 80s'. How could I not wear that?? So I added a visor and some converse high tops and hey presto, we have 80s sports! Does anyone else find that when they put on sporty clothes their energy skyrockets? I've been sick for a while, but as soon as I had the costume on I felt like going for a run.... which is a rarity in itself!

I was loving my costume at home, but when I got to the party I felt like a massive frump.. I think I was the only girl there not wearing a leotard. Lesson learned: next time head to Target and stock up on fluoro dance clothes from the kids section.

the big five-oh.

50 posts, woo, go team!

i've got a 1980s sports themed 21st tomorrow night....what to wear, what to wear??
i've been Googling as many different combinations of 80s, eighties, fitness, fashion, clothing, sportswear etc as i can think of, with no luck! im amazed. never before has Google let me down so much.

What do people suggest? I'm currently thinking white polo, bright pink tiered mini, black leggings, and white converse hi tops...oh and a visor to top it off. also have a big greay adidas jumper for when im outside.. not ideal but probably the best i can do with what i've got to work with.

i always love an 80s themed party, there are so many of them during 21st season. such a fun decade of fashion. all the fluoros and volume and clashing prints... love it. plus it gives me an excuse to pull out those old supre ra-ra minis ive been storing away! black with white polka dots and hot pink, i clearly wasn't concerned with standing out in the crowd...

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to bake we go...

Well, I've been baking again! And I have to say this has been my most successful attempt so far! Being Father's Day, i thought I'd be a good little daughter and please Dad with a dessert from his home country.

Greek dad = Greek Easter cookies

Technically it was the wrong celebration to be making them, I realise that, but I thought the fact that I was baking him something was good enough! He'd be chuffed with the fact that I was actually taking interest in something Greek...instead of embarrassing him by not being able to speak or understand the language when his friends try to talk to me!

So i had the house to myself yesterday, and i took advantage of the peace and quiet to get cooking. I'm learning from my past mistakes, i realise that I need to have all the ingredients and utensils out and ready so that I can run through the recipe smoothly without panicking at my inability to find the vanilla essence. I even improvised a bit and cut the measurements so we wouldn't have to eat them for weeks, and swapped some of their ingredients for some a little more Sophie-friendly.

Wanna see?

They tasted goooood. Kinda citrusy, they have a bit of lemon and orange rind in them, but it's a very mild flavour. haha...it's kinda sad i'm so proud, but if you knew how little i like to cook... it's a big thing in my house!

I got the recipe from online, check it out at the taste.com.au site.

Oh, and Dad was chuffed :) mission accomplished.

Belated Memories Monday #2

I MISS MEMORIES MONDAY AGAIN!

ahh its shameful...such a neglectful blogger

anyway here goes, (another) belated memory.

From what I've heard this is the first time I'd been to the snow. Actually, even now it's probably only one of three times I've been there... This was taken on a family trip to Lake Mountain, the nearest snowy area to Melbourne during winter. Whenever we end up looking through our old photo albums with guests, they always laugh at our story that our parents put me in rubber dishwashing gloves, and my lucky brother had plastic bags fastened over his shoes because something had happened to his gumboots. And no this wasn't some quick fix because we were too poor to afford water-proof gloves and boots. God knows what was going through Mum and Dad's heads at the time. Still, I look happy, and i think those awesome pink gumboots make up for what's lacking.

get excited.

As part of one of my uni subjects our major assignment is to work on some sort of group project for the semester. Luckily for me, there were a bunch of people in my tute that were interested in doing the same sort of project as me - so, 50% of my mark for this subject revolves around our ability to pull off a successful fashion parade. The token guy in our group is one of 8 kids, and two of his sisters have just opened a new boutique in this arcade off Glenferrie Rd, called Spoilt Sister. They were looking to launch their store, we were looking for a focus for our project, and hey presto, we had an answer. So we're currently working on planning and as of next week promoting our fashion show that will launch the store and its stocked labels. Which are actually really hot by the way, I had my first visit there on Thursday and I left wishing I hadn't spent far too much money on clothing already this week... Make sure you check them out all you Melbournites!

But yeah last week we headed over to Spoilt Sister for a bit of paparazzi action. We need some promotional shots, as well as some footage of the store for a promo DVD we're also making up for the launch. So we spent a morning snapping away in the little boutique, and more importantly, me, Mez and Adriana got to try on lots of pretty dresses. Ohhhh it was hard work...
Of course, every dress or top that I liked the most was the most expensive in the shop. clearly I have great taste.

I've included a bunch of the shots I took over the morning. I realise they're pretty shoddy quality, they won't be used on the promo stuff, never fear! I just had my little crappy point and click digital on hand, the media students in our group had the big scary professional looking cameras, and hopefully got some better shots.

Oh and if you're in the area and visiting the shop, also pop into Fly Eyes sunglasses, they've got hot (and very expensive) sunnies, and, i was extremely excited to discover, my 2 fave jewellery labels - love and Disney Couture. not to mention there's a rather cute sales boy that goes by the name of dan ;)
