I Shop Therefore I Am.

I'm starting a bit of a rebellion against chainstores.

Finally, some of you might say.

Lack of a job and restrictions on how much shopping I can get out and do (as well as a love of them in the first place) has made me spend a lot of time in op-shops lately. And I've found some awesome stuff! My fave is a cherry red woollen jumper with white pattern around the top. So unlike me, but i love it! and other than my mum freaking out at the start it's gotten a good reception so far. Best $8 spend ever.

Other good buys recently include a navy blue satchel, prefect size for uni - $5 at local op shop
about 5 classic books including Lady Chatterley's Lover and Peyton Place - 50c each at op shop
cute pale yellow 80s longish sleeve top - $29 at Episode
cute 1/2 sleeve cream top/dress - bit more expensive, from Meet Me At Mikes

LOVE LOVE LOVE-ing the Brunswick, Gertrude, Smith, Johnston St square. Hunter Gatherer, Episode, Somebuddy Loves you, Curious Eidolon.. ahhh heaven! and Meet Me At Mike's on Bridge Rd is just torture, I want everything in the shop! retro figurines and vintage greeting cards were teasing me, might have to go back for them at some stage...

I finish uni early tomorrow, might have to hunt down Kids in Berlin on Victoria St. Last time I drove down there I couldn't see it anywhere, but this time I'll arm myself with the shop number and I'm not coming home empty handed!

Memory Mondays the First

In honour of Flashback Fridays on the Meet Me At Mikes blog, I've decided to start up Memory Mondays. :) I love old photos, the black and white and sepia tone give them so much retro character. I've been fishing through my mum's old albums from when she was just a few years older than me, travelling around Europe with her friends. Loving the styling, it's so funny to see that a lot of what they're wearing is currently or has recently been in fashion!

millions of cupcakes, cupcakes for me

Guess who baked?!

A slight obsession with cupcakes and muffins that has come over me in recent weeks has inspired me to get down and dirty in the kitchen today. This was also aided by the desire to put off starting a media release for uni...

Now those who know me will be aware that as much love as I have for eating, I have hatred for cooking, so this was a big step for me. I started easy, with a recipe for some choc chip cupcakes I got out of an old Women's Weekly cookbook. After not a hell of a lot of beating, whisking and stirring, and only 20 quick minutes of baking, our kitchen was filled with the yummmmy smell of melted chocolate.

I'm becoming domesticated, Mum is so proud.

one little runty one got a bit burnt on the side, but other than that they tasted pretty good for a first go. Next stop, icing!

saturday night rambling

i just realised it's saturday night! everyones out partying and im about to head off to bed to read some more of the constant gardener... loser much? good book though, trying to get it finished so i can watch the movie again (and stop the late return fine from the library from building up further..) i've seen the movie but i think i fell asleep during it so i can't really remember it at all. SO i'll get this read then have a second round at the film. i have a rule, i like to read the book before i see the movie. something about creating mental imagery before it's ruined by the director's vision i think. like with harry potter, i want to re-read that book before i see the new movie. don't think that'll happen though, way too long and too little patience.

i watched the stepford wives with han tonight, pretty shit movie we decided, way too many holes in the storyline. like, if they just implant computer chips in the wives' brains, and don't mess round with their bodies, why do they turn into human ATMs?? not very well thought through now is it....

just some gratuitous snaps of hanny and me at qbar a few months back, back when i was fun!!

in the beginning...

so i've become a blogger. i learnt about it in first year. i bitched about having to keep one in second year. and now i've willingly started one. my how things change.

a sudden rush of inspiration and creativity, a lack of outlets and a serious addiction to browsing random websites due to a stint as a housebound hermit has resulted in this. it could be the most boring thing you'll find on the net, or it could build a following....somehow i'm expecting the latter will not happen. but, whatever happens, at least it will give me something to do... a way to entertain myself while everyone else is out partying.

enjoy.
