am i a wow?

it's fair to say that i'm rather addicted to this website. for someone interested in fashion, it's like a labyrinth, drawing you in until you can't find your way back out.

for those who haven't heard of stylemob.com, basically it's a social networking site for those involved in, interested in, or who just like looking at fashion. members can post up images of their own outfit creations and new finds, or just photos of others they admire. they can describe what is in the image, including any specific details and the price/origin. then browsers can leave comments ("props and constructive criticism only") and rate the image as either 'not for me', 'ok', 'like it' or, the much coveted 'wow'. seems rather lame when you describe it like that, but it really is an addictive concept once you get started. it's intriguing to see how a teenager in california will rate a beloved outfit you wore out on saturday night in melbourne. and, conversely, to see what the cool kids over the other side of the world are wearing.

now excuse me, i'm off to peruse the fashionistas in copenhagen.

the shoots?

this season, magazines and fashion blogs have dubbed the slightly-less-than-ankle-boots, shoots (shoe boots). these were left off my wishlist in the last post, but finally go the images working... so let me know what you think. i actually bought the black ones, but i'm considering taking them back if they don't look right with my dresses and stuff... but i think they'll be good to wear through summer and winter, and for both nights out and more corporate occasions. the heel is a really comfortable thickness and height, but they're a little bit roomy because i have a very narrow foot. on second thoughts, i think i'll keep them. haha... it was always going to happen.

the gold boot is coming out at the same store any day now, and rest assured... i'll be waiting when it arrives.

love and lust

Apologies for lack of posts of late, recently been in the hosiptal for a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Sounds more impressive than using the everyday words... ok, so i had my gallbladder removed. so my absence is excusable!

but on a lighter note. woooooowweeeee is there a lot on my wishlist of late. loving fashion at the moment! the prints, the luxe boho, the vintage inspiration, the colours... there's so much room for interpretation in each trend. Great season for everyone not looking like walking clones. and a great season for successful op-shopping! my local has been doing me proud, i've come out of there with some exciting finds recently. yesterday - a purple and black skirt (worn as dress) for $1, a black tank (to be tucked into high waists) for 50c, high waisted denim shorts for $1 and a checked sleeveless shirt (also to be tucked in) for $1.50. Perfect total price for me, as I'm currently living the unemployed life..

but back to today's fashion. some of my lust haves at the moment incluuuude...

this kitsch little doodad. i love this donkey. you grow flowers on it's head.

self-explanatory really. various items of jewellery i can't afford (though i do own the anchor necklace)

peacock necklace off etsy i thiiiink...

another Peacock necklace, from Tilkah

'I Still Love Dylan' tee from MyPetSquare

well, technically the skirt of this, but i could only find the dress image online... it's Sass and Bide

leotards to wear under high waists - this one's American Apparel

and there are about a million pairs of shoes, but for some reason i cant upload the pics. probably sparing you from filing through oodles of photos anyway.
does anyone want to buy me a belated christmas present??

If you go down to the woods today....

It's been ridiculously hot in Melbourne of late, with temperatures skyrocketing to over 40 degrees. Since I've barely left the comfort of my air conditioned house (other than to escape to the comfort of the air conditioned movie theatre) I decided to make the most of a refreshing 25 degree day yesterday to organise a picnic! I've wanted to do it for quite a while, and yesterday we finally got off our butts and headed over to the Canterbury Gardens. We had all the typical picnic supplies - tartan rug, straw hamper, paper plates and cups, plus heaps of fooooooooood :) Was a lovely afternoon of gorging, then working the food off with some ball games. Followed by some serious sunbaking. Took me back to my childhood days of picnics with the family. All in all a great summer day.

Braids for '08

I love love love the trend that's popping up everywhere for summer 07/08 for braiding the front of the hair, then leaving the rest loose or in a messy ponytail. It's right up my alley, embracing the relaxed, folky style that I love. But I'm struggling with it for myself. I'm yet to master braiding the front without getting a big part just behind the braid.. and with dark hair the part is extra obvious. Can anyone give me some tips on the easiest way to achieve this style?? It's set to become my summer staple if I can get it working...
